NO. R-90. House concurrent resolution in memory of Eric Hale Nye of Georgia.

Whereas, Eric Nye was one of the town of Georgia’s most distinguished citizens, and
Whereas, an outstanding dairy farmer, he was the first area farmer to diversify his crops to include strawberries, and for 35 years was known for his “strawberry fields of Georgia,” and
Whereas, Eric Nye’s entrepreneurial activities extended beyond his farm as he was the founding member of the Nye Insurance Agency, and
Whereas, Eric Nye’s farm and insurance business, while extremely important, were hardly the only activities in which he was involved, and
Whereas, he left an indelible mark on the town of Georgia, having been a founder of the local fire department, and
Whereas, a man of great wisdom, practical experience, and common sense, Eric Nye was elected repeatedly by his fellow citizens to serve on the town’s selectboard, and
Whereas, for many years, he was Georgia’s road commissioner overseeing the maintenance of the municipality’s highways, and
Whereas, religion was central to Eric Nye’s life and he served as a trustee and deacon at the Georgia Plains Baptist Church, and
Whereas, in the winter months, when tending to neither vocational or municipal duties, Eric Nye loved to ice fish, and
Whereas, he was famous in Georgia for his hot pepper jelly, and
Whereas, his death, this past year, ended the life of this highly respected, and much admired, municipal public servant, and
Whereas, as a special memorial to Eric Nye’s service to his town, the 2005 Georgia Town Report is dedicated in his memory, and
Whereas, his presence will be missed by the many persons in Georgia whose paths he crossed in a business, municipal, or social context, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly expresses its condolences to the family of Eric Hale Nye and recognizes his dedicated public service on behalf of the town of Georgia, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the family of Eric Nye.
