Whereas, Ken Harvey grew up in Hyde Park, graduated from Lamoille Union High School, and earned a business degree at Champlain College, and

Whereas, after graduating from college, Ken Harvey returned to Lamoille County to embark on a successful entrepreneurial career which today encompasses his ownership of K.A. Harvey’s MFG Housing Inc., County Oil, County Plumbing & Heating, and the Sterling View, Johnson Mobile Home Park, and Highland Heights residential developments, and 

Whereas, despite his many professional commitments, Ken Harvey decided to devote his time and energy to serving the citizens of Hyde Park and Lamoille County as a public servant, and

Whereas, his municipal public service began in 1981 when he was elected to a seat on the Hyde Park selectboard, and in 1985, he expanded his commitment to the town when he accepted the road commissioner’s position, and

Whereas, the voters of the Lamoille-1 House legislative district were impressed immediately with his job performance as a selectboard member, and in 1983, they elected him to serve as their representative to the General Assembly for the first of five consecutive terms, and

Whereas, Representative Harvey won the trust and respect of his legislative colleagues, regardless of their partisan affiliation, and he was appointed to chair the important House Committee on Transportation where he presided in an honest and fair manner, and

Whereas, in 1992, he relinquished voluntarily his legislative seat, but has continued to serve as the chair of the Hyde Park selectboard, and as the Hyde Park road commissioner, and

Whereas, as a founding member of the Hyde Park Recreational Field Committee, he was instrumental in the development of the town’s new athletic facility, and he also serves on the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Advisory Board, and

Whereas, Ken Harvey is active in many fraternal organizations, and

Whereas, in recognition of Ken Harvey’s 24 years of exemplary municipal public service, which he is concluding this Town Meeting Day, the 2005 Hyde Park Town Report is being dedicated in his honor, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly honors and extends best wishes to former Representative Ken Harvey of Hyde Park, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Ken Harvey in Hyde Park.
