NO. R-43. House concurrent resolution honoring Jon Purcell of Boy Scout Troop 876 in Morrisville on becoming an Eagle Scout.

Whereas, scouting is a movement that challenges, inspires, and guides young men toward high achievements and high values as expressed in the Scout oath, law, motto, and slogan, and
Whereas, Eagle is the highest rank in Boy Scouting, and
Whereas, attainment of Eagle rank requires mastery of difficult challenges in diverse areas, and
Whereas, only 26 percent of all scouts reach the rank of Eagle, and
Whereas, Jon Purcell of Troop 876 in Morrisville demonstrated outstanding leadership and organizational skills in completing the community service project requirement for his Eagle award, and
Whereas, his project entailed improving the walking trails on the CREW property in Morristown, and
Whereas, as the first phase of this endeavor, Jon devoted three days to widening the existing path with a brushhog and improving the trail’s durability by using a skidsteer at selected locations; walked the path with the aid of a GPS compass in order to provide specific coordinates for a map; and created and painted trail signs, and
Whereas, as a second phase of this project, he gathered a work party, consisting of 23 friends and family members, to construct two bridges, erect signs, spread bark mulch, cut weeds, and relocate picnic tables, and
Whereas, as a result of Jon’s outstanding initiative, the CREW Trails are now a far more inviting destination for an afternoon’s walk or picnic, and
Whereas, at a Troop 876 Eagle Court of Honor, he was inducted into the special group of scouts who have earned the rank of Eagle, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates Jon Purcell of Morrisville on his achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Jon Purcell.
