NO. R-27. House concurrent resolution congratulating Ann Fitzgerald on her designation as the Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2004 Person of the Year.

Whereas, Ann Fitzgerald has been an extraordinary volunteer whose six decades of community service have focused on improving the quality of health care in the greater Bellows Falls community, and
Whereas, in the 1940s, she worked as a Red Cross nurse’s aide at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital (RMH), and
Whereas, subsequently, Ann Fitzgerald joined the RMH Auxiliary, and she walked door-to-door during its membership and fundraising campaigns soliciting financial support for the organization, and
Whereas, she served at different times as the organization’s treasurer, secretary, and president, and
Whereas, while serving in these varied roles for the RMH Auxiliary, Ann Fitzgerald remained active as a hospital volunteer working in the gift shop, the coffee shop, and at the emergency room’s reception desk, and
Whereas, when the Auxiliary folded in the 1990s, she led the way to assure its scholarship fund’s survival, and today the Greater Falls Scholarship Fund can state with pride that it has awarded over $300,000.00 worth of scholarships to local students, and
Whereas, Ann Fitzgerald’s volunteer roles at the RMH also included service on its board of directors, including a term as its president, and in the 1980s, she became an RMH corporator, and
Whereas, her leadership and perseverance ultimately resulted in the opening of the Dental Care Center at the Health Care Center at Bellows Falls, fulfilling her long‑held desire to improve the area’s access to dental care, and
Whereas, while the RMH has been the primary focus of Ann Fitzgerald’s volunteer activities, she was also a board member and president of the Monadnock Family and Mental Health Services and the Bellows Falls Historical Society, and
Whereas, in recognition of her over half-century of community service, the Greater Falls Chamber of Commerce selected Ann Fitzgerald as the recipient of its 2004 Person of the Year Award, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates Ann Fitzgerald on her designation as the Greater Falls Chamber of Commerce 2004 Person of the Year, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Ann Fitzgerald in Bellows Falls.
