Agriculture; education; farm-to-school
This act establishes a mini-grant program to help schools increase their use of local farm products or teach children about farm-to-school connections or both; directs the secretary of agriculture, food and markets to help farmers find ways to increase sales to schools and state government agencies and to award funds to an entity which will process Vermont farm products; directs the commissioner of education to provide training on use of locally grown foods to food service personnel; directs the secretary of agriculture, food and markets, the commissioner of education, and the secretary of human services to report to the general assembly on strategies that will increase the use of Vermont farm products in schools and state agencies; and directs the commissioner of education to report to the general assembly regarding school district adoption of nutrition policies.
