ACT NO. 58
Registration; conservation motor vehicle plates
This act amends the motor vehicle conservation registration plate law as follows:
(1) Current law directs the commissioner of motor vehicles and the commissioner of fish and wildlife to determine the graphic design of special conservation plates in a manner which serves to enhance the public awareness of the state's interest in restoring and protecting its nongame wildlife and major watershed areas. This act expands the scope of the state's interest by deleting the reference to nongame.
(2) The commissioner of motor vehicles and the commissioner of fish and wildlife have been authorized to alter the graphic design of these special plates provided that plates in use at the time of a design alteration remain valid subject to the operator's payment of the annual registration fee.
(3) The commissioner of motor vehicles and the commissioner of fish and wildlife are directed to annually submit to the members of the house committees on transportation and on fish, wildlife and water resources and to the members of the senate committees on transportation and on natural resources and energy a report detailing, over a three year period, the revenue generated, the number of new conservation plates sold, and the number of renewals, and recommendations for program enhancements.
(4) The sunset provision of the conservation plate law has been repealed.
