NO. R-209. Senate concurrent resolution congratulating Christopher Newhouse of Boy Scout Troop 611 in South Burlington on becoming an Eagle Scout.
Offered by: Senator Condos of Chittenden District and Senator Leddy of Chittenden District.
Whereas, scouting is a movement that challenges, inspires, and guides young men toward high achievements and high values as expressed in the Scout oath, law, motto, and slogan, and
Whereas, Eagle is the highest rank in Boy Scouting, and
Whereas, attainment of Eagle rank requires mastery of difficult challenges in diverse areas, and
Whereas, only 26 percent of all scouts reach the rank of Eagle, and
Whereas, Christopher Newhouse of Troop 611 in South Burlington has demonstrated outstanding leadership in completing his Eagle community service project, and
Whereas, his unusual multifaceted project included historical research, outside manual labor, and cyberspace know-how in his effort to preserve and document the Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester, and
Whereas, Christopher spent many hours in this predominantly military cemetery, creating a registry of every grave, cleaning the graves, and then using 21st century technology to report his research findings by creating an Ethan Allen Cemetery web page, and
Whereas, a junior at South Burlington High School, Christopher is an outstanding student, having qualified for National Honor Society membership, and
Whereas, he is a member of his school’s Scholar Bowl team, participates in the math league, and, for relaxation, plays Ultimate Frisbee, and
Whereas, on May 27, 2005, Troop 611 will hold an Eagle Court of Honor at which Christopher will be inducted into the elite group of Boy Scouts who have earned the rank of Eagle, and
Whereas, Christopher and his family can be very proud of this special achievement, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates Christopher Newhouse of Boy Scout Troop 611 in South Burlington on becoming an Eagle Scout, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Howard Loso, Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 611 in South Burlington.
