NO. R-189. Senate concurrent resolution congratulating Albert “Al” J. Kinzinger on his designation as the Swanton Chamber of Commerce’s 2004 Outstanding Citizen of the Year.
Offered by: Senator Collins of Franklin District and Senator Kittell of Franklin District.
Whereas, Al Kinzinger is a U.S. Navy veteran and attended both submarine school and nuclear power school before his assignment as a machinist’s mate to the U.S.S. Sturgeon, and
Whereas, he and his future wife, Susan Speer of Swanton, met in 1971, were married in 1973, and are the proud parents of a daughter, Meagan, and
Whereas, in 1977, the Kinzingers moved to Swanton, and Al Kinzinger began to work with his brother-in-law in the construction trades, and
Whereas, for the last 28 years, he has played a vital role as a member of the Swanton fire department, and
Whereas, Al Kinzinger, who has developed extensive expertise as a firefighter, has provided professional training to his colleagues throughout northwestern Vermont, and
Whereas, his fellow firefighters in Swanton have come to rely on his leadership and wisdom, first as secretary-treasurer, and, then in 1992, as the department’s exemplary chief, and
Whereas, Al Kinzinger’s leadership role at the department extends beyond daily operations as he has served as president of its Star Hose company, and, in that capacity, has become a prolific fundraiser as the more than $100,000.00 of proceeds from the company’s weekly bingo games demonstrate, and
Whereas, he was recognized for his leadership as a public safety official during the historic 1998 ice storm, and
Whereas, the International Association of Firefighters’ Franklin County chapter was proud to have Al Kinzinger serve as the chapter’s president, and
Whereas, he served as co-chairman of the 2002 Vermont State Firefighters parade, and
Whereas, in 1992, Al Kinzinger became a lineman with the Swanton Village Electric Company, and was promoted to the rank of line foreman in 2002, and
Whereas, he has served as a youth softball coach, has volunteered at Swanton’s annual summer festival and parade, and is a member of Seventy Six Lodge #14 of the Free and Accepted Masons, and
Whereas, the Swanton Chamber of Commerce, in recognition of Al Kinzinger’s invaluable service to his community as a member, lieutenant, and chief of the Swanton fire department and as a dedicated community volunteer, is honoring him as the organization’s 2004 citizen of the year, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates Albert J. Kinzinger on his designation as the Swanton Chamber of Commerce’s 2004 Outstanding Citizen of the Year, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Albert J. Kinzinger and to Swanton fire chief Peter Prouty.
