Whereas, snowboarding is a sport involving intricate maneuvers on the slopes that often defy spectators’ imaginations, and
Whereas, the annual high school championship tournament encompasses a giant slalom, a slopestyle race, and the event most closely identified with snowboarding, the halfpipe, and
Whereas, after completion of the giant slalom competition, the Rutland High School Raiders were trailing in fourth place and not seen as primary contenders for the championship, and
Whereas, not easily deterred, the Raiders employed swiftness and innovative turns and twists to advance to first place, and
Whereas, in the slopestyle, a Raider freshman, Matt Douglas, outpaced his older competitors, capturing first place in this event, and
Whereas, fellow classmate Ryan Allaire also impressed all in attendance as he captured second place in the halfpipe competition and third in the slopestyle, and
Whereas, Raider Steve Vumbaco was fifth in the slopestyle, and
Whereas, not only were the Raiders confronting the top high school snowboarders in the state, but they were also forced to contend with conditions that at times were icy, and darkness prevailed at key moments on the slopes despite the clock indicating it was midday, and
Whereas, when the scores were tallied, Rutland was the undisputed winner of the boy’s team title by a respectable 25‑point margin, and
Whereas, the Rutland High School Raiders boys snowboarders, including Ryan Allaire, Matt Douglass, Dylan Lynch, Bijan Razzaghi, Steve Vumbaco, Dave Parnell, Trevor Bryant, Chris Dalglish, Aaron Webster, Chris Williams, and Aaron Barclay, traversed the snowy trails at Killington’s Black Mountain with agility and grace, and appreciated the assistance of team manager Kate Edson, and the camera of videographer Chris Heck, and
Whereas, Coach Tony Pettit provided much encouragement and technical advice, now therefore be it
