NO. R-131. House concurrent resolution congratulating the Mount Mansfield Union High School 2005 Cougars boys’ alpine skiing state championship ski team.

Whereas, the annual state meet, held this year at Bromley Mountain, serves as the culmination of the high school alpine ski season, and
Whereas, the boys’ team from Mount Mansfield Union High School (MMUHS) demonstrated agility and speed as they raced quickly down the giant slalom and slalom terrains capturing the 2005 state championship title, and
Whereas, although the skilled competitors from other high schools’ alpine ski teams proved challenging opponents, MMUHS emerged victorious, and
Whereas, leading the way for this extremely competent crew of skiing enthusiasts was Cougar Nick Young who crossed the finish line first in the giant slalom and third in the slalom, respectively, and
Whereas, when the day’s activities on the slopes had concluded, MMUHS and its rival team from Burr and Burton Academy stood tied with equally low scores, the scoring objective in alpine skiing, of 82, and
Whereas, in order to break the tie, and determine a winner, the judges, in accordance with Vermont Principals’ Association rules, relied on the results of each school’s fifth‑place skier in the giant slalom and slalom, and
Whereas, MMUHS’ Jake Tobi and Ben Foust who were their team’s fifth‑place finisher in each event skied faster than their respective Burr and Burton counterparts, and
Whereas, after this unusual review of the results, the MMUHS Cougars were declared the 2005 boys’ alpine skiing state champions, and
Whereas, the entire team, consisting of skiers Peio Beristain, Andrew Bloch, Josh Cohen, Jeff Davis, Ben Foust, Ben Haller, Brendan Hamel‑Bissell, Zak Lance, Tommaso Miari-Fulcus, Connor O’Brien, Niklaus Scheidegger, Taylor Sisson, Eric Sutherland, Jake Tobi, Vibor Travas, Tyler Wilkinson‑Ray and Nick Young, shares the credit for the team’s terrific season on the slopes, and
Whereas, the guidance of Coach Warren Palmer and Assistant Coach Paul Curtiss was essential for the MMUHS victory, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the Mount Mansfield Union High 2005 Cougars boys’ alpine skiing state championship ski team, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Warren Palmer at Mount Mansfield Union High School.
