Whereas, on January 20, 2004, seven members of the Vermont National Guard’s HQ STARC VT ARNG FW 10 departed Vermont for Fort Drum, New York where they completed 10 days of preparatory training prior to their departure for duty in the Middle East, and
Whereas, after completing a further two‑week training period in Kuwait, they left for a 12‑month deployment in Iraq, and
Whereas, after serving our nation with distinction and honor as members of the United States military forces in Iraq for a year, the citizen soldiers of HQ STARC VT ARNG FW 10 completed their overseas assignment and boarded an aircraft for the long journey home, and
Whereas, on Sunday, February 20, 2005, they arrived safely at Fort Drum, for a period of debriefing before heading home on February 25, 2005 to Vermont for reunions with their families, and
Whereas, families of these Vermont National Guard members have experienced challenging times during the deployment period and are relieved their loved ones have returned home, and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly recognize the personal and professional sacrifices that Vermont National Guard personnel deployed overseas for extended periods of time have made in fulfilling their military obligations, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly is extremely proud of the Vermont National Guard and extends the warmest possible welcome home to the members of HQ STARC VT ARNG FW 10 on their return from a 12‑month deployment to Iraq, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Vermont Adjutant General Martha Rainville at Camp Johnson in Colchester and to each member of HQ STARC VT ARNG FW 10.
