NO. R-113. House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2004 Mount Abraham Union High School Division II field hockey team.
Offered by: Representatives Fisher of Lincoln, Sharpe of Bristol, Clark of Vergennes and Smith of New Haven.
Whereas, the two-time defending Mount Abraham Union High School field hockey team once again had an outstanding season as it earned the first-seed placement in the 2004 Division II championship, and
Whereas, in the season’s ultimate game, played on Rutland’s Alumni Field against the second-seeded U-32 Raiders, the Eagles, once again, emerged victorious, and
Whereas, Senior Carolyn Griggs, concluding her high school field hockey career in memorable fashion, scored each of the team’s two goals, one in each half, and
Whereas, the first period score occurred during the Eagles’ first penalty corner as teammate Chelsea Jipner passed the ball to Jennifer Stetson and Griggs sent it into the net with 4:35 remaining in the first half, and
Whereas, in the second half of the game, Griggs’ second goal resulted from a play involving a corner attempt as Eagle Dana Smith passed the ball to Nichole Bushey, who forwarded it on to Griggs for the second and winning point, and
Whereas, Eagle goalie Samantha Flint was always on the alert as she prevented four potential Raider shots from sailing passed her and into the net, and
Whereas, the 2004 title marks the fourth time in the past five years that Mount Abraham walked away with the Division II field hockey honors, and
Whereas, the entire team, consisting of Gillian Comito, Farrell Campbell, Jenna Charbonneau, Marie Fetters, Ashley Cassidy, Alicia Steggerda, Jennifer Stetson, Sarah Bernheim, Cassie Thibeault, Dana Smith, Ashley Sweeney, Jackie Yandow, Chelsea Jipner, Kielee Rochon, Carolyn Griggs, Nichole Bushey, Kelsey Lea, Ashlie Pouliot, and Samantha Flint, is to be commended for a stunning season of superb play, and
Whereas, head coach Mary Stetson and assistant coaches Ann Pollender and Brook Brisson taught the Eagles the skills both to succeed on the field and to be gracious winners, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the 2004 Mount Abraham Union High School Division II field hockey team, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Mary Stetson at Mount Abraham Union High School.
