NO. R-104. Senate concurrent resolution congratulating Karen and Brian Zecchinelli on their designation as the 2005 Vermont Champions of Small Business.

Whereas, each year, the National Federation of Independent Business selects a small business in every state to be honored as the year’s small business champion, and
Whereas, this award recognizes small businesses that “go the extra mile for main street businesses and mom and pop companies,” and
Whereas, the Vermont recipients of this prestigious award in 2005 are Karen and Brian Zecchinelli, the owners of the Wayside Restaurant and Bakery in Berlin, and
Whereas, this hard-working couple is proud to be the third generation of their family to operate this successful 87-year old independent business, a role they assumed in 1988, and
Whereas, the restaurant is known for its reasonably priced and delicious menu, and the respectful manner in which Karen and Brian Zecchinelli treat and compensate their employees, and
Whereas, the Wayside Restaurant and Bakery has a reputation for excellence that extends far beyond the state’s borders and serves over 1,000 meals on a daily basis, and
Whereas, Brian and Karen Zecchinelli are leading advocates on issues of importance to local businesses, as Karen’s volunteering on behalf of the Central Vermont Chamber of Commerce exemplifies, and
Whereas, the couple’s local involvement extends beyond the business community as Karen Zecchinelli is a Berlin Elementary School volunteer and chair of her church’s administrative board, and the Wayside donates to over 100 organizations, and
Whereas, Karen and Brian Zecchinelli are most worthy recipients of this special honor recognizing the operators of an outstanding Vermont small business, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates Karen and Brian Zecchinelli on their designation as the 2005 Vermont Champions of Small Business, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Karen and Brian Zecchinelli in Berlin and to the Vermont office of the National Federation of Independent Business in Montpelier.
