NO. R-46.  Joint resolution designating September 11 as “Take a Friend to Lunch Day.”


Offered by:  Representatives Trombley of Grand Isle and Johnson of South Hero.

Whereas, September 11 has been a day of sadness and loss for family, friends, the community, and the nation, and

Whereas, reaching out to individuals is important in the process of rebuilding communities, and

Whereas, those individuals who have witnessed the tragedy of September 11 have the opportunity to create new and positive memories of this date, while never forgetting the thousands of innocent individuals who died, and

Whereas, Mrs. Ira Ridell was a long-time community volunteer who died on September 11, 2002, and

Whereas, she had proposed that after her funeral, her friends go to lunch to honor her life, and

Whereas, this gesture can have special meaning in fostering individual and community ties, and

Whereas, the state of Maine has already designated September 11 as “Take a Friend to Lunch Day,” now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly designates September 11 as “Take a Friend to Lunch Day.”
