NO. R-44.  House concurrent resolution wishing a safe deployment and return home for members of Task Force Sabre of the 1st Tank 172 Armored Battalion of the Vermont Army National Guard.

Whereas, members of the Vermont National Guard are being called to active duty as their units are mobilized for service in Iraq and other overseas locations, and

Whereas, a Vermont National Guard unit’s deployment ceremony is a solemn occasion for the brave Vermonters about to depart for potentially dangerous assignments in overseas military theaters of operation, and

Whereas, the moments before departure are filled with both pride and trepidation as Vermont National Guard members and their families say their farewells before these brave men and women leave the state, and

Whereas, regardless of whether the deployment ceremony is large or small, it has special meaning for all the individuals involved, be they guard members or their families, and

Whereas, on Friday, January 7, at the Vermont Air National Guard base in South Burlington, a deployment ceremony was conducted for 45 leaders of the Vermont National Guard’s 1st Tank, 172 Armored Battalion, designated as Task Force Saber, who that day began 18 months of active duty, including a year in the Middle East, and

Whereas, this deployment ceremony signaled the start of a new chapter in the lives of these outstanding Vermont National Guard members, and

Whereas, the thoughts of Vermonters turn to the safe return of these brave soldiers as they start a challenging chapter of their lives and face potential danger in the service of their country, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly expresses its heartfelt support for the members of Task Force Saber as they begin their 18-month active duty deployment and for all members of the Vermont National Guard while they are on active duty, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Vermont National Guard Adjutant General Martha Rainville at Vermont National Guard headquarters at Camp Johnson in Colchester.
