NO. R-20. House concurrent resolution congratulating former Speaker of the House Stephan Morse on his designation as the Vermont Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.

Whereas, annually, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce recognizes an outstanding individual who has contributed to the improvement of our state through service, self-sacrifice, and volunteerism as the organization’s Citizen of the Year, and
Whereas, in 2004, former Speaker of the House Stephan Morse of Newfane was awarded this special honor, and
Whereas, Stephan Morse now serves as president and chief executive officer of the Windham Foundation in Grafton, a not-for-profit organization located in Grafton that is dedicated to restoring the historic buildings and economic vitality of the village, providing financial support for education and private charities, and developing projects that will benefit the general welfare of Vermont and Vermonters, and
Whereas, in addition to continuing the foundation’s charitable activities and operation of The Old Tavern at Grafton, the Grafton Village Cheese Company, and Grafton Ponds, Stephan Morse was instrumental in the foundation’s purchase and preservation of The Retreat Farm in Brattleboro, a working 450‑acre dairy farm, and
Whereas, aside from his Windham Foundation activities, he has served on the governing boards or committees of many organizations, and
Whereas, in recognizing Stephan Morse’s service to the state and citizens of Vermont, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce has honored an individual whose contributions are numerous and wide ranging, and
Whereas, the award was presented to him at a ceremony held this past October in Woodstock, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the former Speaker of the House Stephan Morse of Newfane on his designation as the Vermont Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Stephan Morse at the Windham Foundation in Grafton.
