NO. R-10.  Senate concurrent resolution congratulating the 2004 Champlain Valley Union High School Crusaders Division I championship girls' cross country team.


Offered by:  Senator Lyons of Chittenden District, Senator Snelling of Chittenden District, Senator Condos of Chittenden District, Senator Flanagan of Chittenden District, Senator Leddy of Chittenden District and Senator Miller of Chittenden District.

Whereas, the girls’ cross country team at Champlain Valley Union High School (CVU) has achieved remarkable success during the last two fall seasons, and

Whereas, having won the state and New England championships in 2003, the 2004 Crusaders were among the finest female runners in the state, and

Whereas, they headed to the 2004 Division I state championship tournament at the Thetford Academy course as leading contenders to repeat as the event’s first place finishers, and

Whereas, the young women from CVU performed to their highest expectations as they captured their second consecutive Division I title, and

Whereas, while they did not clinch a second consecutive New England championship, the Crusaders ran extremely well at the regional competition, which took place in Manchester, Connecticut, and they finished most respectably in second place, and

Whereas, team members Kendall Frost, Mairead Harris, Amy Hopkins,  Ariel Marcy, Melanie Mccormick, Sydney McEwen, Lindsey Morel, and Emily Olsen are all outstanding young student athletes, and

Whereas, the roles of Coach Scott Bliss and assistant coaches Kasie Wallace and Cory Coffey in the school’s outstanding girl’s cross country program are worthy of special note, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the 2004 Champlain Valley Union High School Crusaders Division I championship girls’ cross country team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Scott Bliss at Champlain Valley Union High School.
