Subject: Motor vehicles; tow trucks; lights; alternatively flashing; emergencies

Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to authorize towing vehicles to display alternatively flashing headlamps, known as wigwags, when responding to an emergency towing situation.

AN ACT RELATING TO THE USE OF ALTERNATING FLASHING HEADLAMPS ON TOWING VEHICLES

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1. 23 V.S.A. § 1243(d) is added to read:

(d) Tow trucks are authorized to display alternatively flashing headlamps, known as wigwags, when responding to an emergency towing situation. For purposes of this subsection, tow truck means a motor vehicle equipped with a boom or booms, winches, slings, tilt beds or similar equipment designed for the towing or recovery of vehicles and other objects.
