NO. R-203. JOINT RESOLUTION honoring the Vermont Miracle Workers "Millennium Miracles of the Year 2000" award recipients.

Whereas, organ donations are a special gift of life and hope, and

Whereas, advances in surgical technology have expanded the demand for donated organs, and

Whereas, annually, since 1987, through the efforts of Chester and Beth Hickok of Bennington, Vermont Miracle Workers has recognized a person or persons who, in the organizationís opinion, have made the greatest effort to educate Vermonters concerning the importance of organ donation, and

Whereas, for the year 2000, this special award was entitled "Millennium Miracles of the Year 2000," and

Whereas, the recipients of this turn-of-the-century honor are Jim Carter of Jericho and Tom Donovan of Burlington, and

Whereas, these gentlemen established "Vermont Volunteers for Organ Donation" and traveled to 55 high school driver training programs around the state, informing their young audiences that organ donations can provide new hope for thousands of individuals, and

Whereas, they were formally presented their awards during the Vermont Health Expo which was recently held at the Pownal Race Track, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly commends Jim Carter and Tom Donovan for their innovative campaign to inform young Vermonters that organ donations are a life-saving gift, and congratulates them on being named the Vermont Miracle Workers "Millennium Miracles of the Year 2000", and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Jim Carter in Jericho, Tom Donovan in Burlington and to the Vermont Miracle Workers in Bennington.
