NO. R-168. JOINT RESOLUTION honoring Vermontís school crossing guards.

Offered by: Representatives Pillsbury of Brattleboro, Milkey of Brattleboro and Webster of Brattleboro.

Whereas, each morning, thousands of children in Vermont must walk across busy streets and intersections on their journey to school, and

Whereas, the motor vehicle traffic that passes through these congested zones can pose a serious threat to students, especially the very youngest, and

Whereas, traveling through children-populated areas can be an equally daunting experience for drivers who must remain extremely vigilant, and

Whereas, in addition to the caution which both pedestrians and motor vehicle operators must observe, school crossing guards play a crucial role in alleviating potential human tragedies, and

Whereas, school crossing guards report to work in the morning and afternoon of each school day, regardless of the weather, and carefully coordinate the traffic flow through their assigned areas, and

Whereas, they serve as a special set of eyes and ears for the youngsters who are their momentary charges, and

Whereas, students and school crossing guards develop great friendships, and look forward to their brief daily greetings, and

Whereas, school crossing guards are truly the unsung heroes of Vermontís highway safety efforts, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly is pleased to recognize the extraordinary dedication and conscientiousness of Vermontís school crossing guards, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Green Street School in Brattleboro.
