Whereas, 6,468 registered nurses and over 423 advanced practice registered nurses in Vermont represent our stateís largest health care resource, and
Whereas, these professionals address the health care needs of Vermonters in a variety of settings, including homes, communities, long-term care facilities, hospitals, industries and schools, and
Whereas, the quality, cost-effective and safe services provided by these registered nurses and advanced practice nurses will increasingly be in demand as an essential component of the Vermont and federal health care delivery systems, and
Whereas, registered nurses expand their education, mold their practice and direct their research to the prevention of illness, maintenance of wellness, advances in medical technology, improvement of health care delivery systems, and the unmet health care needs of our most fragile citizens, and
Whereas, May 6-12, 2001, is National Nursesí Week, whose theme of "Nurses are the true spirit of caring" recognizes the dedication and commitment that registered nurses bring to their profession, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly recognizes the role of registered nurses in the delivery of quality health care, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Vermont State Nursesí Association.
