Whereas, the final path to basketball glory commenced when, with only a few minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Danville’s Lacy Ward stole the orange ball, enabling teammate Lauren Bertolini to successfully reach the basket for the first two of her team’s seven essential catch-up points, and

Whereas, the gap between the teams was quickly narrowed to two points, as Emily Hoffer easily directed the ball through the hoop as she succeeded in scoring on three successive foul shots, and

Whereas, when Wilmington next possessed the ball, Emily was on the alert, stole it and scored another crucial basket in the fourth quarter’s waning minutes, suddenly tying the contest at 52-all, and

Whereas, the Danville players continued surging ahead, and despite a last second Wilmington rebound which left the teams deadlocked at the end of regulation play, the momentum had clearly shifted to the northern squad, and

Whereas, Danville quickly developed a 67-57 overtime lead, and with the addition of Lauren Bertolini’s two points from the foul line with 46 seconds left in the extra period, the ultimate Danville 69-62 victory was achieved, and
