NO. R-100. JOINT RESOLUTION designating November 3, 2001 as Veterans’ Day Parade Day.

Offered by: Representatives Sweetser of Essex, Myers of Essex, Kirker of Essex, Stevens of Essex, Heath of Westford and Cleland of Northfield.

Whereas, on Saturday, November 3, the Town of Essex and the Essex Junction VFW Post #6689 will host the Third Annual Statewide Veterans’ Day Parade, and

Whereas, this parade is an annual event sponsored by the Green Mountain Council, the Boy Scouts of America, in conjunction with all veterans’ organizations and the Vermont National Guard, and

Whereas, the first Saturday in November has been selected as the official parade date by all organizations involved, so as to allow veterans’ organizations and local communities the opportunity to host or conduct services and ceremonies on the federally-recognized Veterans’ Day, November 11, and

Whereas, Governor Howard Dean and members of the Congressional Delegation, local officials, veterans’ organizations, the Vermont National Guard, boy scouts and girl scouts, other youth organizations, marching bands, the general public, and numerous other organizations will be invited to participate, this will truly be a statewide celebration honoring our veterans, and

Whereas, this parade will carry on a very proud tradition, now therefore

be it

Resolved by the Senate and the House of Representatives:

That the general assembly designates November 3, 2001 as Veterans’ Day Parade Day, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Commander, VFW Post #6689, to the Green Mountain Council, the Boy Scouts of America, and to Vermont Adjutant General Martha Rainville.
