NO. R-94. JOINT RESOLUTION honoring Veronica "Ronnie" Friedman.

Offered by: Senator Shumlin of Windham County and Senator Chard of Windham County.

Whereas, the delivery of social and support services to Vermontís senior citizens is an extremely important responsibility, and

Whereas, for the last two decades, in her role as director of the elder nutrition programs for the Council on Aging for Southeastern Vermont, Inc., Veronica "Ronnie" Friedman has been a leader in the development and implementation of programs to support the nutritional and basic living requirements of senior citizens in Windham and Windsor counties, and

Whereas, her efforts have provided senior citizens with balanced hot meals, facilitated visits with their friends, furnished specially-arranged transportation services, and perhaps most importantly, enabled many seniors to continue living in the familiar surroundings of their own homes, and

Whereas, under Ronnie Friedmanís leadership, the number of area senior citizen meal sites has increased from eight to 20, and

Whereas, the number of meals served at home has skyrocketed from 33,000 in 1979 to over 112,000, and another 90,000 meals are served each day at 24 congregate meal sites, and

Whereas, Ronnie Friedman has successfully advocated for increased funds for senior meals and related programs from federal, state and private sources, and

Whereas, in conjunction with the meal sites, she has established a network of nine vans to transport seniors to the meal sites, stores and medical appointments, and this transportation network has now been transferred from the council to local transit providers to ensure its continued operation, and

Whereas, Ronnie Friedmanís promotion of good nutritional practices and support for improving the lives of southeastern Vermontís senior citizens is an outstanding accomplishment, and

Whereas, on March 30, 2001, Ronnie Friedman will be completing her tenure at the Council on Aging for Southeastern Vermont, Inc., now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly is pleased to honor Veronica "Ronnie" Friedman for her great contributions to the lives of southeastern Vermontís senior citizens, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Ronnie Friedman at the Council on Aging for Southeastern Vermont, Inc. in Springfield.
