NO. R-70. JOINT RESOLUTION designating April 19-22 as "The Wall That Heals Days".
Offered by: Representatives Sweetser of Essex, Cleland of Northfield, Freed of Dorset, Gray of Barre Town, Heath of Westford, Helm of Castleton, Houston of Ferrisburgh, Kirker of Essex, LaBarge of Grand Isle, Myers of Essex, Stevens of Essex and Tracy of Burlington.
Whereas, from April 19-April 22, the town of Essex, and the Essex Junction VFW Post 6689, will host the Vietnam Veteransí Memorial Fundís Traveling Wall, which is also known as, "The Wall That Heals," and
Whereas, "The Wall That Heals" is a half-scale replica, exact to the letter and inch, of the original Vietnam Veteransí Memorial in Washington, D.C., and
Whereas, the wall travels across the United States, reminding us of the lives of the 58,202 Americans, our relatives, friends and neighbors, that were lost in Vietnam, and
Whereas, the names of the over-110 Vermonters who perished while serving in Vietnam, and will never again see the Green Mountains, are enshrined on the wall, and
Whereas, on Thursday, April 19, "The Wall That Heals" will be officially welcomed to Vermont at a special ceremony to be attended by Governor Howard Dean and other dignitaries, and
Whereas, during its four-day visit to Vermont, the public will be able to view the wall, 24 hours per day, at the Essex location, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly designates April 19-22 as "The Wall That Heals Days" in Vermont, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to VFW Post 6689 in Essex Junction and to the Vermont Adjutant General Martha T. Rainville.
