NO. R-65. JOINT RESOLUTION honoring Richard "Dick" Lathrop and Roy LaRose on serving 50 years as distinguished members of the Bristol Fire Department.

Whereas, Vermontís volunteer firefighters are the unsung heroes of our towns, risking their lives to protect the communities that we hold so dear, and

Whereas, Richard "Dick" Lathrop and Roy LaRose both joined the Bristol Fire Department on April 4, 1951, when it was still known as the N. H. Munsill Hose Company, and

Whereas, Dick Lathropís firefighting and leadership skills were readily apparent as he was first appointed the departmentís Assistant Chief in 1953, and intermittently continued in that position until 1982, and

Whereas, since 1956, Dick Lathropís firefighting tenure has most appropriately included several terms as the departmentís chief, and

Whereas, his leadership among the ranks of volunteer firefighters has extended beyond his hometown, through his life membership in and past presidency of the Addison County Firefighters Association, an organization that, in 1988, presented him with its Firefighter of the Year Award, and

Whereas, today, Dick Lathrop is proud to serve as Bristolís honorary Fire Chief, and

Whereas, in 1958, Roy LaRose served the first of three terms as Assistant Fire Chief in Bristol, and

Whereas, for 25 years, he was the departmentís always reliable first Truck Captain, and

Whereas, in 1985, the Addison County Firefighters Association, of which he is a life member, presented Roy LaRose with its Firefighter of the Year Award, and

Whereas, in 1992, Roy LaRose was especially honored when he was chosen as the recipient of the Vermont State Firefighters Associationís Firefighter of the Year Award, and

Whereas, Dick Lathropís and Roy LaRoseís families are very proud of their respective accomplishments as half-century members of the Bristol Fire Department, and

Whereas, on February 10, 2001, both Dick Lathrop and Roy LaRose were honored for their 50 years of exemplary service as members of the Bristol Fire Department, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly is delighted to congratulate Richard "Dick" Lathrop and Roy LaRose on the occasion of each serving 50 years as distinguished members of the Bristol Fire Department, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Dick Lathrop and Roy LaRose in Bristol.
