NO. R-54. JOINT RESOLUTION IN HONOR OF THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF FORMER REPRESENTATIVE JOSEPH AND ANNA CARACCIOLA.

Whereas, Joseph Caracciola has been an active member of the Bennington community for over half a century, and

Whereas, although he is originally from Whitehall, New York, at age 24, in 1939, he was offered the manager’s position at the A&P grocery store in Bennington, and settled in the community that has been his home ever since, and

Whereas, Joe Caracciola soon met his future wife Anna, and they were married on February 16, 1941, and

Whereas, in 1942, he was drafted into the United States Navy where he served at sea for the duration of World War II, and

Whereas, after his honorable military discharge, Joe Caracciola returned home to Bennington, his wife Anna, and his job at the A&P, and

Whereas, after refreshing his familiarity with the grocery business, he left the A&P to venture into self-proprietorship as the owner of his own store, Joe’s Open Quik Market, located on Hunt Street in Bennington, and

Whereas, both Joe and Anna Caracciola soon became realtors, and Anna assumed responsibility for the family’s real estate office, while Joe directed operations at the market, and

Whereas, as the owner of a popular local market and as a realtor, Joe Caracciola became acquainted with many of Bennington’s residents, and in 1962, successfully stood as a Democrat for the town’s then solo seat in the House of Representatives, and

Whereas, during the course of his legislative career, which lasted through the 1978 session, he chaired the former Committee on Highways and Bridges and also served as vice chair of the House Committee on Institutions, and

Whereas, since retiring from the legislature, Joe Caracciola has been active in various fraternal organizations including the Elks, Moose and the American Legion, and

Whereas, on February 16, 2001, Joe and Anna Caracciola will celebrate 60 wonderful years together as husband and wife, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly is delighted to send happy 60th wedding anniversary greetings to the former member from Bennington, Joe Caracciola, and his wife Anna, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Joe and Anna Caracciola in Bennington.
