Offered by: Senator Bloomer of Rutland County and Senator Sears of Bennington County.

Whereas, Fred Bever was raised in the great metropolis of New York, and

Whereas, recognizing the benefits of a more civilized environment, he migrated to Vermont to pursue his chosen career as a journalist, and

Whereas, Fred Bever signed on as a reporter for the Bennington Banner, covering a broad spectrum of stories, and earning his fair share of journalistic scoops, and

Whereas, Fred Bever then migrated northerly and became a reporter for the Rutland Herald, and

Whereas, while reporting on Bennington and Rutland County politics, he was occasionally assigned to cover the great debates under the golden dome, and

Whereas, lured by the excitement of the legislative and political beat, and the chance to cover the loquacious solons who inhabit these hallowed chambers, Fred accepted a position on the staff of the Vermont Press Bureau, and

Whereas, this indefatigable newshound quickly demonstrated that he had a sensitive nose for the news, and

Whereas, throughout his tenure at the Vermont Press Bureau, Fred Bever had a reputation for outstanding writing and journalistic integrity, and

Whereas, following in the footsteps of many distinguished print journalists, Fred has decided to take to the airwaves; in his instance, as a political reporter at the Augusta bureau of Maine Public Radio, and

Whereas, while the readers of the Rutland Herald and Barre-Montpelier Times Argus will no longer have the benefit of his reporterís perspective, the listeners of Maine Public Radio will quickly come to associate his melodious voice with the most authoritative and insightful legislative and political reporting in the downeast state, and

Whereas, his familiar presence and easygoing personality will be missed in the Vermont State House, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly recognizes Fred Bever as an outstanding Vermont Press Bureau journalist, and wishes him all the best as he pursues his new career at Maine Public Radio, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State send a copy of this resolution to Fred Bever.
