NO. R-50. JOINT RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE 2001 BOYS’ STATE PROGRAM TO USE THE STATE HOUSE.

Whereas, each June, dozens of outstanding young men who are entering their senior year in high school journey to the state capital under the auspices of the Vermont American Legion, to participate in a unique educational experience known as Boys’ State, and
Whereas, as members of Boys’ State, these aspiring future statesmen learn the rudiments and challenges of American democracy, and
Whereas, a significant segment of the program includes gathering at the State House for a mock legislative session, and
Whereas, these young men leave the State House with a greater appreciation of the intricacies involved in enacting legislation, and
Whereas, the 2001 Boys’ State is scheduled to visit the State House on June 21 of this year, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the 2001 Boys’ State is authorized to use the House and Senate chambers, Rooms 10 and 11, and the committee rooms, on June 21, 2001 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and that the Sergeant at Arms is authorized to facilitate the visit of Boys’ State to the State House, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Sergeant at Arms and the American Legion office in Montpelier.
