NO. R-22. JOINT RESOLUTION in memory of Bartley Costello.

Offered by: Representatives Mullin of Rutland Town and Webster of Brattleboro.

Whereas, Bartley Costello, a native of Rutland City, had a distinguished career as a teacher, attorney, public official and civic leader, and

Whereas, upon graduating from Mount St. Joseph Academy, and the University of Vermont, where he served as his class president, tennis team captain, and was a member of the honor society, Bartley Costello embarked on his first professional career as a public school teacher in Williston, and

Whereas, he subsequently returned home to Rutland, where he was initially employed in the private sector, and then as assistant city treasurer, and

Whereas, when the nation entered World War II, Bartley Costello served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and

Whereas, after graduation from Albany Law School, he commenced a highly-respected tenure as an attorney in private practice, and

Whereas, Bartley Costello served the citizens of Rutland City as a member of the school board, and

Whereas, his organizational directorships included the Marble Savings Bank, the Rutland Regional Medical Center, the Rutland Chamber of Commerce and the Rutland Country Club, and

Whereas, he was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and president of the Vermont State Holy Name Society, and

Whereas, Bartley Costello was a great golf enthusiast, having won both the Rutland Country Club's senior and super sonic championships, and

Whereas, for 57 years, he was married to Catherine Costello, and was the proud father of four sons, Bartley, Thomas, Brian and Barry, 11 wonderful grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and

Whereas, Bartley Costello will be fondly remembered by his many friends for the numerous and diverse ways in which he enriched the life of Rutland City, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly extends its sincere condolences to the family of Bartley Costello on his passing, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Catherine Costello in Rutland City.
