     Whereas, Dan Tyminski, a West Rutland native, has risen to the pinnacle of country and bluegrass music as a multitalented and award‑winning instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and recording engineer, and

     Whereas, for over a decade, he has continued to win recognition as a star on the country music scene, and

     Whereas, in 1991, the Lonesome River Band, of which he was a member, won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA) Album of the Year award, and

     Whereas, Dan Tyminski’s musical career reached a new plateau after he switched to the Nashville‑based band, Alison Krauss & Union Station (for which he acquired his first guitar), which has since won four Grammy Awards, and

     Whereas, in 2000, Dan Tyminski released an enormously successful solo album, entitled “Carry Me Across the Mountain,” reflecting, in part, his youth in the Green Mountain state, and he performed at the newly‑reopened Paramount Theatre in Rutland, and

     Whereas, the year 2001 was an extraordinary testimony to Dan Tyminski’s musical talents as he earned four IBMA honors, including an individual award as “Male Vocalist of the Year” and group recognition for the Soundtrack Album of the Year for “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”, Single of the Year for the album’s recording of “I Am a Man Of Constant Sorrow,” and Instrumental Album of the Year for “Knee Deep in Bluegrass:  The Acutab Sessions,” and

     Whereas, on Wednesday, February 27, 2002 Dan’s musical genius was once again recognized as he won, along with fellow Soggy Bottom Boys’ members Harley Allen and Pat Enright, the 2002 Grammy Award for best country collaboration with vocals for the group’s stirring rendition of “I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow” from the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” Movie Soundtrack, and

     Whereas, this Vermont native’s remarkable success as a premier country music performer is a tribute to his outstanding talent and melodic ingenuity, now therefore be it

     Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly is pleased to congratulate native Vermonter Dan Tyminski on winning the 2002 Grammy Award for best country collaboration with vocals, and be it further

Resolved:  That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Dan Tyminski in Ferrum, Virginia.
