Joint Senate Resolution

By Senators Maynard, Bloomer and Crowley,

J.R.S. 97. Joint resolution congratulating Rabbi Solomon and Mrs. Marilyn Goldberg on the 40th anniversary of their spiritual and community leadership of the Rutland Jewish Center.

Whereas, Rabbi Solomon Goldberg graduated from Moravian College and was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, and

Whereas, Marilyn Goldberg graduated from the joint degree program of Columbia University's School of General Studies and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, and

Whereas, Rabbi Goldberg served in the United States Army from 1952-1954, and

Whereas, on July 4, 1960, Rabbi Goldberg, his wife, and young son Hobbi, moved to Rutland, Vermont, where the Rabbi was to serve as spiritual leader at the Rutland Jewish Center, and

Whereas, Rabbi Goldberg has received many community honors, including special awards from the Vermont Conference of Social Concerns, the Rutland Council of Social Agencies and the National Conference of Christians and Jews, and

Whereas, in recognition of his numerous civic endeavors, then Rutland Mayor Gilbert Godnick presented Rabbi Goldberg a special "Key to Rutland City," and

Whereas, Marilyn Goldberg has been an active leader in the educational and community activities of the Rutland Jewish Center, and

Whereas, Rabbi Goldberg has served as a community educator, adjunct college professor, and as a board member of many religious and civic organizations, both locally and nationally, and

Whereas, Rabbi and Marilyn Goldberg have served as an inspiration to their congregants and the community at large, now therefore be it

RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:

That the General Assembly congratulates Rabbi Solomon Goldberg and his wife, Marilyn Goldberg, on their 40 years of spiritual and community leadership at the Rutland Jewish Center, and be it further

RESOLVED: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Rabbi Solomon Goldberg and his wife Marilyn at the Rutland Jewish Center.
