Whereas, the production of semiconductors is an economically critical manufacturing procedure in this high technology era, and

Whereas, for over 20 years, the IBM plant at Essex has been producing semiconductors of incomparable quality for use around the world, and

Whereas, the staff at the IBM facility in Essex has always employed the most sophisticated technology and safety standards, and

Whereas, in recognition of the continued outstanding work performance of the staff at the IBM facility, “Semiconductor International,” a leading trade magazine, has named the IBM plant as one of the three top semiconductor plants in the world, and

Whereas, the IBM facility was the only one of the three honored plants located in the United States, and

Whereas, this honor reflects the dedication, ingenuity and professional competency of the IBM workforce, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the staff of the IBM plant in Essex on its designation as an internationally leading semiconductor manufacturing facility, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Hank Geipel, senior location executive at the IBM plant in Essex. and to Louis V. Gerstner, Jr., the chairman of the board of IBM in Armonk, New York.
