Whereas, Robert Franzoni’s lifelong residency in Rutland County was comprised of successful entrepreneurship, innovative leadership in athletic endeavors and public service on behalf of his community, and

Whereas, his ingenuity and love of sports were evident early in his life, as he joined with friends to operate a ski tow in Shrewsbury, believed to be only the second such facility in the United States, and

Whereas, after honorable service as a U.S. Navy aerial gunner instructor during World War II, Robert S. Franzoni returned to his native Rutland to embark on a business career that initially drew on his knowledge of sporting activities as he acquired the Wilson Sports Equipment Company, and

Whereas, he subsequently broadened his retail endeavors to include photo and music stores as well as operation of the ski shops at the Pico and Okemo ski areas, and

Whereas, Robert S. Franzoni’s expertise in marketing athletic equipment resulted in his selection as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Sporting Goods Association, and

Whereas, he served as a director of both the Howard Bank and the Rutland Chamber of Commerce, and

Whereas, Robert S. Franzoni’s commitment to public service included sitting as a member of the Rutland City School Board, and

Whereas, his sporting acumen was ably demonstrated when he won New England skeet shooting and fly casting championships, and as a member of the “Lightning Fleet” sailing team that raced on the waters of Lake Bomoseen, and

Whereas, Robert S. Franzoni was a cofounder of the Rutland Royals baseball team, and

Whereas, he was a highly respected member of the Rutland community who always endeavored to do his best in all of his worthy pursuits, and

Whereas, he was the husband of Janet Franzoni, the father of Robert and David and had two grandsons, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly extends its condolences to the family of Robert S. Franzoni, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Janet Franzoni in Rutland.
