Whereas, the Rice Memorial High School girls’ basketball team, the defending 1999 Division I Champions, sought to repeat this achievement in the year 2000, and

Whereas, with each succeeding Rice victory, the team’s many fans recognized that another divisional title, and second perfect season, were achievable objectives, and

Whereas, the Rice girls’ basketball team earned a spot in the final divisional playoff, and was athletically and psychologically prepared for a challenging contest against the Essex High School Hornets, and

Whereas, the large and enthusiastic crowd at St. Michael’s College witnessed a thrilling basketball match-up that was certainly worthy of the appellation Division I Championship, and

Whereas, initially, the two Chittenden County teams appeared evenly matched as the Rice women held a 16-15 lead at the first quarter’s conclusion, and were tied at 43 points apiece as the buzzer sounded, announcing the third quarter’s completion, and

Whereas, in the fourth, and final, quarter, Rice, propelled forward by leading scorers Morgan and Ashley Valley and Melody Bongiorno, easily outscored the Hornets 20-4, and squelched any doubt of the game’s outcome, and

Whereas, the Rice women’s stunning 63-47 triumph was the crowning jewel of the 1999-2000 effort as their twin hopes of retaining the Division I title, and playing another perfect season, were in the record books, and

Whereas, each of the Rice players, including Jilby Danis, Becky McCormick, Colleen Davidson, Katie Brennan, Michele Lareau, Jean Papillo, Tara Fehr, Jamie Walker and Kate McCormick, and team manager Kate Rabidoux, is to be congratulated for her role in leading the Rice Memorial High School girls’ basketball team to victory, and

Whereas, the inspirational courtside leadership of Coach Paul Rabdioux and Assistant Coaches Tim Rice and Jen Rock was essential for the team’s magnificent performance, and

Whereas, the Rice women have earned seventh place in the U.S.A. Today ranking of girls’ high school basketball teams in the east, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly is pleased to congratulate the Rice Memorial High School 2000 Division I Championship girls’ basketball team, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Coach Paul Rabidoux at Rice Memorial High School.
