Whereas, the Norwich University Cadets ice hockey team skated with agility and determination throughout the 1999-2000 season, completing an undefeated record in Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference competition, and

Whereas, in the final U.S. College Hockey Online regular season poll, the participating coaches and sportswriters overwhelmingly selected the Norwich University Cadets as the top rated NCAA Division III squad, and

Whereas, the Cadets faced off against the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the initial two-game round of the NCAA Division III playoffs, and despite initially trailing RIT 1-0, they easily won the first match 4-1, and

Whereas, an impressive 5-1 victory over RIT in game two assured the Cadet skaters they would make their first NCAA ice hockey championship final round appearance, and

Whereas, the team, and many fans, traveled to Superior, Wisconsin for this special hockey event, and

Whereas, after a 5-4 win in the opening game of the championship final round against the University of Wisconsin at Superior, the Norwich University Cadets captured their first NCAA Division III ice hockey title by the score of 2-1 as they defeated their impressive final opponents from St. Thomas of Minnesota when Marc Bellemare broke a 1-1 deadlock, scoring the tournament's winning goal with 9:07 remaining in the third period, and

Whereas, the outstanding play of Dan Stone, Adam O'Leary, Toza Crnilovic, Marc Bellemare, Keith Aucoin, Mike Ludwar, Curt Healey, Jim Mahoney, Bryan Beers, Jason Lumsden, Rob Jackson, Jon Bokelman, Jim Nagle, Lance Harrington, Marshall Lee, Greg Ducluzeau, Bryce Herperger, Keith Maurice, Tim Kyrkostas, Casey Beaulac, Shane Combres, Matt Moran, Randy Hevey, Ziga Ivanic and Nate Eusko, enabled the Cadets to win this historic victory, and

Whereas, the brilliant leadership of Head Coach Mike McShane and his outstanding assistant coaches Pat Norton, Mark Bolding, Bill Laidlaw and Liz D'elia were essential for the Cadets' great triumph at the NCAA championship tournament, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Norwich University ice hockey Cadets on winning their first NCAA Division III championship, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Coach Mike McShane at Norwich University.
