Whereas, the top-seeded Hazen Union High School Division III boys' basketball team was matched against second-seeded United Christian Academy for the divisional championship at the Barre Auditorium, and

Whereas, the Wildcats of Hazen Union, having nearly captured the championship in each of the prior two seasons, were determined to emerge victorious at the conclusion of this decisive contest, and

Whereas, the offensive determination of the Hazen Wildcats was clearly evident as they completed the first half, holding a significant 32-22 lead, and

Whereas, throughout the third quarter and into the fourth, the Wildcats continued to impress their supporters with their basketball agility as they maintained a 46-37 lead with a mere 3 minutes and 39 seconds remaining in the game, and

Whereas, despite a final surge by the Crusaders, the Wildcats, greatly aided by their tenacious defense and determination, won the game by a score of 47-44, and brought the championship trophy home to an appreciative student body in Hardwick, and

Whereas, the Hazen players, including Bill Welcome, Randy Lumsden, Mike Slayton, Lucas Stubbs, Alexander Calderwood, Landon Thompson, David Pudvah, Gary Hill, Mike Burnham, Tim Shedd, Joe Slayton, Ryan Renaud and Ian Drown, and ball boy Shawn Fontaine, were each significant contributors to the season's exhilarating hardwood floor campaign and wonderful culmination, and

Whereas, Coach Aaron Hill, and assistant coaches Mike Baker, Wayne Lafley, Adam Gann, and staff members Joanne McCarthy, Karen Hudson, Tom Corbett and David Morse provided splendid leadership to guide the Wildcats to victory, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Hazen Union High School 2000 Division III championship boys' basketball team on an outstanding season of athletic accomplishment, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Coach Aaron Hill at Hazen Union High School.
