NO. R-265. JOINT RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF APRIL 10, 2000 AS HIGHER EDUCATION WEEK.

Whereas, Vermont's higher education institutions contribute to the economic viability of the state through partnerships with business, providing an educated workforce, and serving as one of the state's major employers, and

Whereas, Vermont's colleges and universities collaborate with public education entities to provide a seamless pre-K through undergraduate education experience, access to all Vermonters for lifelong learning, and partnering to develop a world-class technical education system, and

Whereas, the colleges and universities in Vermont serve as good neighbors in Vermont communities, providing facilities and resources for families, partnerships with local schools, and invaluable volunteer services to these communities, and

Whereas, the quality of life for the citizens of Vermont is significantly enriched culturally, intellectually, and economically through the breadth of colleges in our state, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly designates the week of April 10, 2000, as Higher Education Week in Vermont, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Vermont Higher Education Council which is requested to distribute copies of the resolution to the presidents of all institutions of higher education in Vermont.
