NO. R-262. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING THE CONTINUING GOOD WORKS OF THE AMERICAN RED CROSS DURING RED CROSS MONTH.
Offered by: Representatives Schiavone of Shelburne, Mazur of South Burlington, Milkey of Brattleboro and Pembroke of Bennington.
Whereas, the American Red Cross has been designated by Congress as the lead voluntary agency responsible for national and international relief in time of peace and to play a similar role in mitigating the sufferings caused by pestilence, famine, fire, floods, and other great national calamities, and
Whereas, the American Red Cross will promote a new program - "Safe Families - Ready for Anything" - to encourage families to obtain training in CPR, first aid, HIV-AIDS education, family disaster preparedness, and other lifesaving skills, and
Whereas, the American Red Cross collects nearly half the nation's annual blood supply, ensuring the availability of blood for individual emergencies, and
Whereas, the American Red Cross provides an emergency communication link between members of the armed forces and their families back home, and
Whereas, the American Red Cross continues to provide these vital services to communities throughout Vermont, and
Whereas, all of these essential Red Cross services are made possible by donations of time, money, and blood by all Americans, and
Whereas, for more than 50 years, the month of March has annually been designated as "American Red Cross Month", now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the Vermont chapters of the American Red Cross on their excellent services to all Vermonters, and be it further
Resolved: That the General Assembly urges all Vermonters to give generously of their time, money and blood to their respective American Red Cross chapters, not just during Red Cross Month but throughout the year.
