NO. R-250. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE RECIPIENTS OF THE YEAR 2000 LOCAL STOREKEEPERS AWARD.

Offered by: Representatives Houston of Ferrisburgh, McGrath of Ferrisburgh, Neiman of Georgia, Hathaway of Barton, Kinsey of Craftsbury, Molloy of Arlington, Jordan of Middlesex and Young of Orwell.

Whereas, many of Vermont's general stores and local markets are rich in history and tradition as exemplified by the 2000 storekeeper award recipients, some of whose stores have operated for 175 years, and

Whereas, local markets serve their communities as important places to meet, greet and exchange information with neighbors, act as a home for official town notices and often serve as centers for assistance when help is needed, and

Whereas, local stores are an important part of our Vermont communities, and

Whereas, the storeowners competing for the 2000 awards received the ultimate compliments through the recommendations of their customers, and

Whereas, grants from the Preservation Trust of Vermont will help this year's winners make improvements to their markets, and

Whereas, the Vermont Grocers' Association joins in appreciation of the Preservation Trust of Vermont and the Vermont Country Store for making these awards possible, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That congratulations are extended to Nancy and Douglas Tschorn of the Wayside Country Store in West Arlington; Roscoe and Darwin Pratt of Pratt's Store in Bridport; June Waite and Jerrilyn Remillard of the Center Market in Georgia Center; Phyllis Willey Hurst and Thomas Hurst of the Willey's Store in Greensboro; and Warren and Kathy Miller of the Elmore Store in Elmore for their selection as the 2000 Preservation Trust Local Storekeepers Award, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Nancy and Douglas Tschorn, Roscoe and Darwin Pratt, June Waite and Jerrilyn Remillard, Phyllis Willey Hurst and Thomas Hurst, and Warren and Kathy Miller.
