NO. R-249. JOINT RESOLUTION IN HONOR OF RETIRING BRIDPORT TOWN CLERK CLIFFORD J. HUESTIS.

Whereas, dedicated public servants are very special persons, and

Whereas, in 1961, Clifford J. Huestis joined the Bridport Fire Department, and he assumed a prominent leadership role on the force, serving as chaplain, truck captain, advisory board member, assistant chief and, most recently, as department secretary, and

Whereas, the Addison County Firefighters Association and the Bridport Fire Department have each honored Clifford J. Huestis by awarding him honorary life memberships in recognition of his many contributions as a volunteer firefighter, and

Whereas, away from the fire house, Clifford J. Huestis has been a municipal public servant of the highest order, and

Whereas, his career as an elected Bridport official has spanned nearly four decades since he was first elected auditor in 1964, and

Whereas, Clifford J. Huestis continued as the town's financial watchdog for two decades, and

Whereas, among his other town positions have been lister, second constable and planning commission member, and

Whereas, realizing the enormous breadth of Clifford J. Huestis's municipal government administrative expertise, in 1990, the voters of Bridport first elected him as town clerk and treasurer, and

Whereas, for the last decade, he has distinguished himself in these offices as exemplified by his designation in 1996 as the Vermont Genealogical Society's Town Clerk of the Year and the dedication of the 1997 Bridport town report in his honor, and

Whereas, after four decades of devotion to his beloved town, Clifford J. Huestis has decided it is now time to pass on the reins of government responsibility to others, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly is pleased to honor Clifford J. Huestis for his many accomplishments as a public official and citizen volunteer in the town of Bridport, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Clifford J. Huestis at the Bridport Town Hall.
