NO. R-231. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING ERNEST LEE EARLE FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF PUBLIC SERVICE IN THE TOWN OF EDEN.
Offered by: Representative Woodward of Johnson.
Whereas, a young lad named Ernest Lee Earle was born on December 21, 1914 to Joseph Orlando Earle and Grace Bello Jones in the town of Eden, Vermont, and
Whereas, Ernest attended schools in Eden and graduated from Johnson High School on June 10,1932, and
Whereas, Ernest married Evelyn Dorothy Ryan on June 22, 1940, and
Whereas, together, Ernest and Evelyn raised their sons, Ernest "Stub" and Harold in that same town of Eden, and
Whereas, they instilled in their sons a great respect for the land and the values of family and citizenship, and
Whereas, Ernest served the Town of Eden as town auditor from 1947 to 1952, and
Whereas, he then served the Town of Eden as a selectman from 1953 to 1954, and
Whereas, he later served the Town of Eden as Lister from 1965 to the present, and
Whereas, at the same time, he served the Town of Eden as Fence Viewer from 1981 to 1999, and
Whereas, in 1986, the Annual Town Report of Eden was dedicated to Ernest for his many years of municipal public service, and
Whereas, in 1999, Ernest and Evelyn were joint recipients of the Haven Bullard Award, given to a resident of Eden who is community oriented and unselfishly serves the community, and
Whereas, Ernest Lee Earle was featured in a Burlington Free Press article written by Brigitte Ruthman, entitled "Yup, He's the Real Thing," detailing the confusion over his close resemblance to Santa Claus, and
Whereas, he was also featured, along with his son "Stub," in the Bicentennial Project on Lamoille County, produced by WCAX, and
Whereas, the Town of Eden will be ever grateful for his many years of wisdom, patience and guidance, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly wishes to thank Ernest Lee Earle for his commitment to the Town of Eden and for his many years of service, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Eden Selectboard.
