NO. R-226. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING DIANE WOLK ON THE COMPLETION OF HER TENURE ON THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.

Whereas, among the numerous outstanding educators in Vermont, certain individuals stand out as exemplary models for the entire profession, and

Whereas, Diane Wolk is, without question, an educator who, during her 28-year career, has blazed a path as a respected classroom teacher, college instructor and educational administrator that teachers throughout the state can follow with great confidence, and

Whereas, for nearly three decades, as an active member of the educational community, her duties have varied, but her personal goals have always centered on providing each student with the best possible academic opportunity, and

Whereas, as a nominee for the Vermont Teacher of the Year Award, and as the 1984 recipient of the University of Vermont Outstanding Teacher Award, her pedagogic skills and sensitivity have not gone unnoticed, and

Whereas, since earning her doctorate in education at the University of Vermont in 1996, she has held important administrative and teaching positions, including principal of the Shrewsbury Elementary School and, more recently, Director of Student Teaching at Castleton State College, and

Whereas, Diane Wolk was appointed to the State Board of Education where her experience in the classroom and as a school administrator proved invaluable to the board's deliberations, and

Whereas, her obvious and ever present leadership qualities prompted her colleagues on the board to elect her as chair in 1997, a job she fulfilled until departing from the board, with great skill, diplomacy and sensitivity, and always mindful of the divergent, and often conflicting, constituencies under the board's jurisdiction, and

Whereas, on Thursday, February 10, 2000, Diane Wolk will be honored at the State House by her colleagues in recognition of her outstanding contributions to public education in Vermont, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly thanks Diane Wolk for her wonderful service to the children of Vermont as a teacher, educational administrator and member and chair of the state board of education, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Diane Wolk.
