NO. R-211. JOINT RESOLUTION WELCOMING THE VISITING STUDENTS AND FACULTY FROM THE AFFILIATED HIGH SCHOOL OF SOUTH CHINA NORMAL UNIVERSITY.

Whereas, seldom is there a forum for students and faculty from schools on opposite sides of the globe to personally meet and exchange ideas related to educational theory and practice, and
Whereas, under the joint auspices of the Asian Studies Outreach Program at the University of Vermont and Green Across the Pacific in Shoreham, which are directed respectively by Dr. Juefei Wang and Peter Lynch, students and faculty from the Affiliated High School of South China Normal University located in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, will, during January and February, visit several Vermont secondary schools, including the independent Gailer School in Shelburne, Fair Haven Union High School, Mount Abraham Union High School in Bristol, and Leland and Gray Union High School in Townshend, and
Whereas, the Chinese students and teachers, and their American counterparts, will discuss various aspects of the learning experience, and
Whereas, this outstanding delegation from the Affiliated High School, through its visitations to Vermont schools and other educational activities while in the Green Mountain State, will help to foster an exciting and stimulating pedagogic dialogue and intercultural exchange that will strengthen the ties between the Affiliated High School contingent and their American counterparts, and
Whereas, on February 2, 2000, the entire delegation, including the Affiliated High School's Vice Principal Zheng Zhiqin, teachers Xu Yuanchun, Xiao Zhaoyun and Li Ruqing, and students Huang Xiaohui, Zhen Qinghui, Wang Nana, Guo Yanting, Zhang Li, Wu Xin, Li Mi, Zhang Yuanhang, Deng Kai, and Hu Dasen, will visit Montpelier for a luncheon with the governor, a tour of Vermont's historic State House and to participate in the opening of an exhibition of field drawings, and
Whereas, this most recent visit is part of a continuing series of intercultural exchanges between students in Vermont and China, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly welcomes these very special guests from the Affiliated High School of the South China Normal University in Guangzhou, Guandong, China and wishes them a pleasurable and memorable visit to Vermont, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to each member of the Affiliated High School delegation and to Peter Lynch and Dr. Juefei Wang during the group's State House visit on February 2, 2000.
