NO. R-210. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING PROFESSOR ALLISON STANGER OF MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE.

Whereas, Allison Stanger has compiled distinguished academic credentials as a scholar and teacher, and
Whereas, she earned both a master's degree in regional studies and a doctorate in political science from Harvard University, and a graduate diploma in economics from the London School of Economics, and
Whereas, Allison Stanger has also studied at Charles University in Prague, the Sorbonne in Paris and the Pushkin Institute in Moscow where she achieved fluency, respectively, in Czech, French and Russian, and
Whereas, since joining the political science faculty at Middlebury College in 1991, she has been named the director of the college's international politics and economics program, and
Whereas, she has become a prolific author on international political and cultural issues, especially with respect to the Czech Republic, and
Whereas, emblematic of Professor Stanger's deep interest in the life of the Czech Republic are her current projects to translate into English, both Ladislav Smocek's dramatic work "Dr Burke's Strange Afternoon" and a book-length study of the Czech Velvet Revolution, and
Whereas, in recognition of her leadership as a teacher, academic administrator and scholar, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has named her the 1999 Vermont Professor of the Year, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly is pleased to congratulate Professor Allison Stanger of Middlebury College on her receipt of this special pedagogic award and wishes her continued success in her scholarly endeavors, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Professor Allison Stanger at Middlebury College.
