NO. R-195. JOINT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE POSTHUMOUS AWARDING OF THE 2000 GAIL LOBENSTINE HUMANITARIAN AWARD TO THE LATE EDGAR SATHER.
Offered by: Representatives Milkey of Brattleboro, Bristol of Brattleboro, Jordan of Middlesex, Costello of Brattleboro, Darrow of Newfane, Darrow of Dummerston, Deen of Westminster, Hube of Londonderry, Obuchowski of Rockingham, O'Donnell of Vernon and Rusten of Halifax.
Whereas, Round Table of Unity, Inc. of Brattleboro, as part of its mission to improve the climate of racial and ethnic harmony in southern Vermont, annually designates an outstanding citizen of southern Vermont to be honored as the recipient of the Gail Lobenstine Humanitarian Award, and
Whereas, this special award is named for the late Gail Lobenstine who devoted innumerable hours to bettering the lives of the downtrodden in her community as a cofounder of the Morningside Shelter in Brattleboro, and as an active volunteer at the Fishes and Loaves Soup Kitchen, also in Brattleboro, and
Whereas, Gail Lobenstine left a legacy of public involvement that reflects a true commitment to those less fortunate and demonstrates how each individual can make a significant and lasting societal contribution, and
Whereas, the posthumous 2000 recipient of the Lobenstine Humanitarian Award is Edgar Sather, who volunteered with Gail Lobenstine at the Morningside Shelter, and
Whereas, Edgar Sather was an original board member of the Brattleboro Community Land Trust, one of the founders of the Brattleboro Area Drop-in Center, a dedicated fundraiser for Brattleboro Cares and the volunteer coordinator of the Client Advocate Care Managers Forum at the Service Enriched Housing Committee in Brattleboro, and
Whereas, Edgar was a stellar example of an individual who devoted his time to improve the quality of life in Brattleboro, and whose death in 1999 left a void in the operation of many local volunteer organizations, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly recognizes the many accomplishments of Edgar Sather that so deservedly merit his posthumous designation as the 2000 Lobenstine Humanitarian Award recipient, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Aundrie Robinson, Executive Director of Round Table of Unity, Inc. in Brattleboro.
