NO. R-193. JOINT RESOLUTION TO CONGRATULATING THE MONTPELIER HIGH SCHOOL SOLONS 1999 DIVISION IV FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS.

Offered by: Representatives Brooks of Montpelier, Kitzmiller of Montpelier and Jordan of Middlesex.

Whereas, the Montpelier High School Solons football team entered the final playoff game for the1999 Division IV Championship prepared to play their very best, and

Whereas, the Solons rapidly displayed their football prowess, opening the championship game with a series of eight consecutive runs that culminated in a 35-yard passing play that placed the first six points on the scoreboard, and

Whereas, a similar set of four runs and a 28-yard passing play soon increased the Solons' lead to 12-0, and

Whereas, a consistently productive combination of running and passing enabled the Solons to conclude the first half with an impressive 34 points, and

Whereas, the Solons' strong display of both offensive and defensive maneuvers resulted in a Division IV championship game victory of 48-12, and

Whereas, this highly competent and disciplined squad, including Aaron Carrien, Andrew Marineau, Pete Lindley, Jon Jordan, Dave Anderson, Joe Salerno, Andy Pinard, Ira Sollace, Jesko Lane, Jeff Bousquet, Ira Gravitt, Jesse Day, Greg Hayden, Eric Desch, Cliff Fleury and Erik Zahm, supported by its fine team managers, Loretta Stark and Angela Toby, performed magnificently under the inspiring leadership of Head Coach Steve Mears and his assistants Mark Moody, Ernie Swenson, Greg Wood, Jerry Cochran and Matt Roberts, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Montpelier High School Solons 1999 Division IV Football Champions, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Head Coach Steve Mears at Montpelier High School.
