NO. R-155. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING JENNIFER MARTIN ON HER RECEIPT OF BOTH THE NEW HAMPSHIRE HIGH SCHOOL WOMEN'S ATHLETIC & ACADEMIC AWARD AND THE WOMEN'S SPORTS FOUNDATION COMMUNITY AWARD FOR HIGH SCHOOL SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR FOR ESSEX COUNTY.

Whereas, many students excel in either academic or athletic pursuits during their high school years, and
Whereas, very few young persons are so athletically inclined and academically oriented that they climb to the pinnacles of achievement both on the playing field and in the classroom, and
Whereas, Jennifer Martin, who commutes daily from her family's farm in Guildhall across the Connecticut River to attend White Mountains Regional High School in Whitefield, New Hampshire, has always striven to reach the highest plateaus in both fields of endeavor, and
Whereas, she has proven her prowess on the cross county track as a swift and steady runner, in basketball as an expert dribbler and shooter, and on the lacrosse field as an adroit handler of the crosse; and, as a senior, Jennifer captained the women's team in each of these sports, and
Whereas, Jennifer's outstanding scholarship earned her entry into the National Honor Society, and
Whereas, she has volunteered in many community activities including coaching children's sports and being an aide in an adaptive physical education class, and
Whereas, Jennifer is committed to her agricultural roots, being active in both the 4-H Club and showing cattle at the Lancaster Fair, and
Whereas, in recognition of her many scholastic and athletic accomplishments, she is a 1999 recipient of both the New Hampshire High School Women's Athletic & Academic Award and, in Vermont, the Women's Sports Foundation Community Award for High School Sportswoman of the Year for Essex County, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That congratulations are extended to Jennifer Martin on her receipt of awards from both sides of the Connecticut River honoring her exemplary success as a high school scholar and sportswoman and best wishes for future success in her academic and athletic pursuits, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Jennifer Martin in Guildhall.
