NO. R-148. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE ST. MICHAEL'S COLLEGE ICE KNIGHTS 1999 NCAA DIVISION II ICE HOCKEY CHAMPIONS.
Offered by: Representatives Vinton of Colchester, Barbieri of Wallingford, Gretkowski of Burlington, Howrigan of Fairfield and Severance of Colchester.
Whereas, the St. Michael's College Ice Knights hockey team, led by team captains Chris Davidson, Mike McDonald and Darren Beers, was extremely effective on the icy surface during the 1998-1999 season, and
Whereas, the Ice Knights' defensive checking skills were superb, and
Whereas, their top NCAA Division II scorer, forward Josh Ralph, enabled the team to excel offensively, and
Whereas, from February 10 onward, the Ice Knights were the number one ranked team in the NCAA Division II ice hockey competition, and
Whereas, sporting a 15-10-1 record as they faced off at their home rink against their NCAA Division II championship opponents from New Hampshire College, the Ice Knights were confident that a triumphant season's finale was in reach, and
Whereas, after an exciting first game that resulted in a 4-4 tie, the Ice Knights decisively defeated New Hampshire College by a score of 8-5 in the second, decisive game, and
Whereas, winning the 1999 NCAA Division II ice hockey title is a fantastic accomplishment, and the entire St. Michaels's squad, including Jim Murphy, Andy Quandt, James Burr, Jason Harrington, Keiran Altieri, Jim Walsh, Peter Ennis, Jeremy Coccaro, Mike Griffin, Chris Davidson, Gerd Stodiek, Jason Breyette, Todd Pirog, Jeff Roukes, Kevin Lane, Keith Hampe, Daykin Marini, Darren Beers, Nick Dion, Pat Kern, Mick Philbin, Chris Kuthy, Mike McDonald, John Coyle, Joe Huff, Andy Weglos, Scott Maxwell, Bob Pooler, Simon Theberge and Josh Ralph, is to be commended, and
Whereas, Head Coach Lou DiMasi and Assistant Coach Steve Mattson and Trainer Zaf Bludevich, expertly directed the Ice Knights throughout this historic season, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the St. Michael's College Ice Knights on a stupendous season, culminating in winning the 1999 NCAA Division II Ice Hockey Championship, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Coach DiMasi at St.Michael's College and to Sports Information Director David Caspole.
