NO. R-145. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE SACRED HEART SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 1999 VERMONT CYO CHAMPIONSHIP.

Bennington and Pembroke of Bennington.

Whereas, the Sacred Heart School girls' basketball team, the Lady Saints, successfully dribbled and shot its way into the state CYO championship game by compiling a record of 12 victories and only two defeats, and

Whereas, this pivotal contest against their formidable opponents from Christ the King School in Rutland proved to be a very exciting afternoon of basketball, and

Whereas, from the opening tip-off, the evenly-matched talent of the two teams was immediately apparent, and

Whereas, while Sacred Heart had a lead of 14-13 at the midway mark, the third quarter concluded with Christ the King ahead 21-17, and

Whereas, the Lady Saints' 27-26 victory was not assured until top game scorer Katie Dailey tossed in the winning basket with only nine seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, and

Whereas, all of the Lady Saints, including co-captains Katie Dailey, Kathleen Daley and Jenny Letourneau, team members Courtney Cone, Catlin Coogan, Brianna Massari, Keri Noel, Katelyn Pembroke, Sarah Sigsbury, Sam Wilette, and their fine coaches Dennis Noel and Charlie Letourneau, deserve credit for this accomplishment only two years after Sacred Heart School reinstituted grades seven and eight, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Lady Saints of Sacred Heart School in Bennington on winning the 1999 Vermont CYO championship, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to David Estes, principal of Sacred Heart School.
